Tech Station™
Product ID: RMXY8647
Make sure your car is race-legal before race day!
It doesn't matter how good your design and paint job are: if your Pinewood Derby® car doesn't meet a few simple standards, it can't compete on race day. It can't be over a certain length or width. And it has to have a set minimum of ground clearance.
You could depend on "eyeballing" the measurements, or use a ruler...but there's a much simpler way to make sure all three are within "specs." And that’s the Tech Station.
Here’s how it works.
Step 1: Check the length and width.
1. Put the Tech Station on a table. Push your car all the way in. Now, look at it from above.
A. Maximum width is 2-3/4” (69.8 mm). If your car fits side-to-side, you’re okay!
B. Maximum length is 7 in. (177.8 mm). If your car doesn’t go beyond the end,
you’re race legal.
Step 2: Check the ground clearance.

1. Now, bend down and look at the open end of the Tech Station.
2. The minimum legal ground clearance for a Pinewood Derby racer is 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) — the exact height of the raised section between the wheels. If your car wheels are on the base and the bottom of the car “clears” the raised center section, you’re ready for racing!
Using the Tech Station takes very little time, but it can save you from a big disappointment on race day. Good racing…and good luck!
